A kitchen is the busiest work zone in the home, so one ceiling lamp is not enough. The most important thing is the work-surface light: over the chopping board and stove you need 300–500 lux with no self-shadow. This is best solved with an LED strip under the wall cabinets.
For general light, use recessed or surface fixtures on the ceiling, and over the dining table a pendant with warm, cosy light. A colour temperature of 4000K is comfortable for work.
